A few more notes about the Island before exploring things to to in K\u0131nal\u0131ada:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>K\u0131nal\u0131ada has three hills with beautiful views: \u00c7\u0131nar Hill, Te\u015frifiye Hill, and Manast\u0131r Hill.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Island has few trees, rocky soil and is rich in various minerals. In fact, the walls of Byzantine-era \u0130stanbul were erected with stones from K\u0131nal\u0131ada. The Island\u2019s stones were also used in the construction of Tophane Dock and Haydarpa\u015fa Port, during the 19th century.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Electricity and water systems are relatively new on K\u0131nal\u0131ada, with an electricity infrastructure installed in 1946. Until 1981, the Island\u2019s water supply was transported from \u0130stanbul via tankers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>K\u0131nal\u0131ada\u2019s population is small but diverse. Around two thousand people live on the Island throughout the year. In summer, the population expands to around 20,000 people.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are a few boutique hotels and some tiny but clean hostels on K\u0131nal\u0131ada.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Since Established in 1857 on Nar\u00e7i\u00e7e\u011fi Street, it is the first and only Armenian Gregorian church in the Adalar district. There are wonderful examples of Armenian stone carving on the inner walls of the church. Adjacent to the church is the summer residence of the Patriarchate. The building was donated by the G\u00fclbenkyan Foundation. The Karag\u00f6zyan Orphanage currently serves as a rest home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b><strong>Hristos Monastery, Hristos Hill<\/strong><\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Situated on Hristos Hill with views of a breathtaking landscape, Hristos Church was the final resting place of Emperor Leo V, killed in a battle at the Hagia Irene Church in 820. The Hristos Monastery was used as an orphanage during the early 20th century and became a military headquarters during the First World War. It hosted White Russians during the Russian Revolution of 1917.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With its wonderful views and lush greenery, the hill is a perfect setting for a picnic.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b><strong>Sikaryan Twin Houses<\/strong><\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sikaryan Houses, among K\u0131nal\u0131ada\u2019s most elegant structures, are two three-story wooden mansions. The spacious 11-room buildings were designed by architect Avedisyan Kalfa and belong to the Sikaryan Family, residents of the Island. The mansions on Faz\u0131l Ahmet Ayka\u00e7 Street are also worth a visit.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b><strong>K\u0131nal\u0131ada Mosque<\/strong><\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the 1950s, a mosque was planned for K\u0131nal\u0131ada to accommodate the Island\u2019s expanding Turkish Muslim population. Accordingly, it was decided to dismantle the Karak\u00f6y Mosque and move it to K\u0131nal\u0131ada. However, the ship carrying the mosque overturned in the Bosphorus and the pieces of the mosque sank in the water. A few years later, the K\u0131nal\u0131ada Mosque, built in 1964 with the support of the people of K\u0131nal\u0131ada, was finally opened for worship.
