Dating from the Roman era, the iconic bridge separates the city into two sections, connecting via the neighborhoods of Seyhan and Y\u00fcre\u011fir. It is 310 meters long and features 21 arches. The bridge was closed to motor vehicle traffic in 2007 and, since that time, has served as an event site. It is easily accessible and definitely one of Adana\u2019s most popular places to visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b><strong>Castle of the Snakes (Y\u0131lankale)<\/strong><\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"784\" height=\"523\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.turkishairlines.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/adana-yilan-kalesi.jpg\" alt=\"Castle of the Snakes (Y\u0131lan Kalesi), Adana-Ceyhan. \" class=\"wp-image-30853\"\/><figcaption>Built in the Middle Ages, Castle of the Snakes (Y\u0131lan Kalesi), Adana.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Set on the ancient Silk Road at the top of a steep hill is the imposing Castle of the Snakes, believed to have been erected in the 12th or 13th century, during the time of the Crusades. While the castle was built for protection purposes and to oversee caravans, it is also considered the setting for the Shahmaran legend, according to the writings of the 17th-century Turkish traveler, Evliya \u00c7elebi. Still largely intact, the castle retains its majesty, drawing large numbers of visitors. It is in the Ceyhan district of Adana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>Green Mosque (Ye\u015fil Cami)<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"784\" height=\"523\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.turkishairlines.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/adana-yesil-camii.jpg\" alt=\"Green Mosque, Adana. \" class=\"wp-image-30855\"\/><figcaption>While the name of the mosque is K\u00f6pr\u00fck\u00f6y, local residents call it the Green Mosque (Ye\u015fil Camii).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The K\u00f6pr\u00fck\u00f6y Mosque is known locally as the Green Mosque, due to its ivy-covered walls and minaret. In the spring, the structure offers the appearance of a lush garden. It is in the K\u00f6pr\u00fcl\u00fc neighborhood, in the Y\u00fcre\u011fir district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>Saint Paul Church (Bebekli Kilise)<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Saint Paul Church (Bebekli Kilise), one of Adana\u2019s most well-known landmarks, was built in the 1880s. The Italian Catholic Church erected in the name of Saint Paul features a two and a half meter sculpture of the Virgin Mary; the Turkish name for the church, \u201cChurch with a Baby (Bebekli Kilise)\u201d refers to the infant-like appearance of the statue.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saint Paul Church is in the Seyhan municipality, Adana\u2019s central district. It is accessible via public bus, minibus, or taxi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>The Great Clock Tower<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"784\" height=\"523\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.turkishairlines.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/adana-buyuk-saat-kulesi.jpg\" alt=\"The Great Clock Tower, Adana. \" class=\"wp-image-30857\"\/><figcaption>The Great Clock Tower, built between 1881 and 1882.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>About a 10-minute walk from Bebekli Kilise is the Great Clock Tower. The 32-meter tower is an Ottoman structure made of cut stone. Its construction was begun in 1881 by Governor Ziya Pasha and finished in 1882 under Governor Abidin Pasha. In addition to being a fine example of Ottoman architecture, the clock tower is notable for surviving an earthquake in 1998. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>Varda Viaduct<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Varda Viaduct, called the Big Bridge (Koca K\u00f6pr\u00fc) by local residents, is in Hac\u0131k\u0131r\u0131 village, in the Karaisal\u0131 district. The viaduct was built between 1907 and 1912 to link the Istanbul-Baghdad-Hijaz railway line during the reign of the Ottoman sultan Abdul Hamid II. Striking in appearance, the railway bridge is 99 meters high and 172 meters long. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>\u00c7ar\u015f\u0131 Hamam (Turkish Bath of the Bazaar)<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Back in the Seyhan district is the \u00c7ar\u015f\u0131 Hamam (Turkish Bath of the Bazaar), just opposite the Great Clock Tower. It was built in 1529 during the Ramadanid Emirate era by Piri Pasha. The historical bath features stone-carved reliefs on the entrance door; it still functions as a hamam, with designated times during the day for women and men. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-css-opacity has-background is-style-wide\" style=\"background-color:#ebebeb;color:#ebebeb\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>The capital of kebab: Famous food in Adana<\/b><\/p><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"784\" height=\"523\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.turkishairlines.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/adana-yemekleri.jpg\" alt=\"Famous Adana kebab\" class=\"wp-image-30859\"\/><figcaption>The traditional Adana kebab features lamb meat on metal skewers with chili peppers, lard and tomato paste.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>Adana kebab<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Adana kebab is nearly synonymous with the city. Famed throughout T\u00fcrkiye, the Adana kebab is made with hand-minced lamb meat blended with a spicy mixture of chili, tomato paste and lamb fat. The kebab is usually served with lavash bread, roasted peppers and tomatoes, and onions sprinkled with sumac. The Adana Kebab is now a geographically indicated dish by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>Craw meal (\u015e\u0131rdan dolmas\u0131)<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"784\" height=\"523\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.turkishairlines.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/sirdan-dolmasi-adana.jpg\" alt=\"Craw meal (\u015e\u0131rdan dolmas\u0131).\" class=\"wp-image-30861\"\/><figcaption>\u015e\u0131rdan is prepared by filling a lamb\u2019s belly with spicy rice and cooking it with tomato paste and water.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Stuffed craw meal (\u015f\u0131rdan dolmas\u0131) is another local Adana dish. To clarify, \u015f\u0131rdan refers to the last and the fourth part of the lamb\u2019s stomach. The stomach is washed thoroughly and left to soak in water with salt and lemon. Then, it is stuffed with spicy rice, sewn up, and boiled in water with tomato paste. While \u015f\u0131rdan dolmas\u0131 may look unusual, it is absolutely delicious. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>Anal\u0131k\u0131zl\u0131 (traditional Turkish dish with stuffed meatballs and chickpeas)<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Eaten as a soup or a main dish, anal\u0131k\u0131zl\u0131 is another acclaimed local dish. Its name comes from the large and small spicy meatballs in the dish. A tip for this recipe: when making the meatballs, pound the lean parts of the meat with a mallet. Many restaurants in Adana serve the dish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>S\u0131kma (A type of wrap)<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Adana\u2019s rich culinary tradition encompasses more than meat dishes. An example is s\u0131kma. Wildly popular in the region, s\u0131kma is a breakfast pastry that can be filled with cheese, tomatoes, parsley, potatoes, spinach or various combinations of those items.  A s\u0131kma suitable for every taste can be found! When you visit Adana, we recommend starting the day with s\u0131kma and hot tea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>Karaku\u015f dessert<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Great meals include dessert and Adana\u2019s karaku\u015f dessert is one of the region\u2019s most famous. Also known as ta\u015f kaday\u0131f, flaky pastry is stuffed with walnuts and fried. There\u2019s also a spectacular waterfall \u2013visitors can observe it and take photos from a specially constructed wooden terrace. There is no entrance fee for Kap\u0131kaya Canyon, which is in the Karaisal\u0131 district, approximately 55 kilometers from the Adana city center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>Belemedik Valley<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Belemedik Valley is also under protection as a natural park. This gorgeous valley is host to  various plant and bird species and is especially vibrant in spring. It is a popular destination for anyone who wants to spend time amid nature: there are camping facilities, walking paths and quaint wooden and stone houses.
