Set in Atat\u00fcrk Park, the monument commemorates the landing of Mustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk in Samsun and displays figures from the War of Independence. The Atat\u00fcrk Monument is particularly notable in that it was established via fundraising efforts by Samsun\u2019s residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>Samsun Clock Tower<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Erected in 1887, the Samsun Clock Tower is in Saathane Square, in Samsun&#8217;s Ilkad\u0131m neighborhood and about two kilometers from the city center. The ship is a replica of the one in which Mustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk arrived from Band\u0131rma; the original ship sank in 1925.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The museum includes wax sculptures of Atat\u00fcrk and his fellow soldiers, as well as exhibits of Mustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk\u2019s handwritten letters. The museum also features displays of the captain\u2019s quarters and the ship saloon, along with various shipping-related items. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>Samsun Castle<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Built to protect the city, Samsun Castle was erected by the Danishmendids in 1192. The seafront complex has three gates and extends to the covered bazaar in Saathane Square. It was discovered in 1995 and is now a protected area and an open-air museum featuring Hellenistic tomb complexes, block-stone walls, and exhibits on Samsun\u2019s religious, cultural  and social heritages. Dough stuffed with onions and minced meat is formed into a long cylinder, baked over a wood fire and then brushed thoroughly with butter. Especially on Sundays, there are long queues in front of bakeries for the famous Bafra pita.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>\u00c7akall\u0131 menemeni (scrambled eggs with tomatoes)<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c7akall\u0131 menemen has recently emerged as one of the most popular Samsun dishes! Typically, menemen is made with eggs, tomatoes, and peppers; the difference between the regular version and that of Samsun\u2019s \u00c7akall\u0131 village is cheese: \u00c7akall\u0131 menemen is topped with grated kashar cheese after cooking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>Oymaa\u011fa\u00e7 kebab<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Samsun\u2019s Vezirk\u00f6pr\u00fc district is famous for its Oymaa\u011fa\u00e7 kebab, named for the district\u2019s Oymaa\u011fa\u00e7 village. Eaten hot or cold, the kebab is usually made with goat\u2019s meat between the months of May and November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The kebab is so well-known, in fact, that one of the traditional village houses in Oymaa\u011fa\u00e7  is designated as the \u2018kebab room\u2019 and the place where the goat meat is slowly roasted over a wood fire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>Broad-bean stuffed <\/b><b><i>sarma<\/i><\/b><b> (baklal\u0131 sarma)<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Like so many traditional Turkish dishes, sarma (stuffed grape or cabbage leaves) exhibits regional characteristics. Samsun\u2019s traditional sarma filling features broad beans, cracked wheat and tiny bits of chopped meat, for a particularly flavorful dish!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>K\u0131vratma (A regional dry baklava)<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Originating in Samsun\u2019s \u00c7ar\u015famba district, this dessert has a geographical indication and is   registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>K\u0131vratma, also known as a dry holiday dessert (kuru bayram tatl\u0131s\u0131), is similar to burma baklava but is prepared without sherbet. The Kabaceviz Waterfall in \u00c7ar\u015famba, about 45 kilometers from the Samsun city center, is among the natural wonders in the region. The sixty-meter waterfall and the lush nature surrounding it are a popular destination for trekking, mountaineering or picnicking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>19 May\u0131s University (OM\u00dc) Pond<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>About five kilometers from the city center is the 19 May\u0131s University Pond, a peaceful locale with a picturesque camping area. Visitors bring tents and spend the night or simply enjoy a day relaxing on the grassy lakefront. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p><b>Akalan Waterfalls<\/b><\/p><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>One hundred kilometers from the Samsun city center are the Akalan Waterfalls, one of the most important tourist attractions in Samsun\u2019s Bafra district. Carpet weaving and samovar production, for example, are associated with the Vezirk\u00f6pr\u00fc district. The Terme and \u00c7ar\u015famba districts are well-known for hazelnut shell baskets; tin smithing and artisanal shoemaking are also prominent in the \u00c7ar\u015famba district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the province is known for its woodwork.
