As noted, it would not be inaccurate to characterize Italian dishes as having \u201cfew ingredients and a lot of flavor\u201d But a major determinant in the quality of these dishes is what is in them \u2013 Italian cuisine is built on fresh local herbs and produce, artisanal cheeses, breads and pastas, and \u2013 of course \u2013 high quality olive oils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Italy\u2019s deep-rooted history and cultural richness in cuisine were crowned with a historic title in December 2025. Italian cuisine was added to UNESCO\u2019s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list, becoming the first national cuisine to be included in its entirety. In making this decision, UNESCO described Italian cuisine as far more than eating; \u201ca way of caring for oneself and others, expressing love, and reconnecting with cultural roots.\u201d This unique blend of culinary traditions is now part of the shared heritage of all humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The regional emphasis on ingredients in Italian cuisine varies. In Italian cooking, pasta  comes in a variety of shapes, lengths and widths. Shorter types are known as &#8220;corta&#8221;; longer pasta types as &#8220;lunga.&#8221; Corta-style pasta includes penne, rigatoni and farfalle; lunga-style pasta would include spaghetti, linguine and bucatini. There\u2019s also lasagna; made with wide noodles, this delicious dish features Bolognese-style minced meat and b\u00e9chamel sauce. flavor.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traditionally, the ideal consistency for Italian pasta is \u2018al dente\u2019 &#8211; translated as \u201cto the tooth\u201d-, a toothsome firmness that is enhanced by complex sauces or a simple tossing in olive oil and garlic.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We composed a brief list of pasta types below.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Spaghetti: <\/strong>Long, medium-thin noodles; usually eaten with tomato sauce.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Farfalle: <\/strong>Also known as \u2018bow tie\u2019 pasta because of its shape.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Penne: <\/strong>Short,<strong> <\/strong>tubular pasta with angled ends; great for absorbing sauces.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ravioli: <\/strong>A pasta \u2018pocket\u2019, usually filled with ricotta cheese, or a meat or vegetable mixture.<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fettuccine: <\/strong>Flat, thick noodles that pair nicely with cream and cheese sauces<strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Linguine: <\/strong>A noodle similar to spaghetti but flatter; typically served with seafood.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tagliatelle: <\/strong>Long, flat, wide noodles; usually served with meat sauces.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Margherita<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Considered by some to be the forerunner of modern pizza, the \u2018Margherita\u2019 originated in the southern city of Naples in the 1800s. A flatbread topped with tomatoes, fresh basil and mozzarella cheese, the dish was considered \u201cpeasant\u201d fare until Queen Margherita, whose summer residence was in Naples, included it on the menus of the palace kitchen. Originally offering a use for day-old bread, toasted bread rounds were topped with a mixture of tomatoes, olive oil and garlic. The slices are dressed in a high quality olive oil, and topped with fresh lemon juice, sea salt, fresh-ground black pepper and shavings of parmesan cheese. The dish can also be made with venison and fish.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Minestrone soup<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With its vegetable-heavy recipe, minestrone soup is not only filling but nutritious. Savory and delicious, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, focaccia is also used to make sandwiches. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Gnocchi<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Made with potato, flour, eggs and salt, these small dumplings are usually served as a side dish, in a soup, or on their own dressed with a sauce.
