    The 52nd İstanbul Music Festival begins!

    The 52nd edition of the annual İstanbul Music Festival, sending magical melodies into the skies of İstanbul every year, takes place between May 21 and June 12. Hosting distinguished orchestras and important soloists from around the world, this year’s festival theme is “Kökler (Roots)”.  Aiming to convey the cultural and historical stories of our common geography on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the population exchange between Türkiye and Greece, the festival will also host Culture Years events, celebrating the centennial anniversary of relations with Hungary and the Netherlands.

    Saz ile Caz (Saz and Jazz) by Ara Dinkjian and Şenay Lambaoğlu

    Şenay Lambaoğlu, an original voice of the jazz world, and oud player Ara Dinkjian interpret works that have left a mark on different geographies. From Omar Khayyam to Aşık Veysel, and from Fürüğ Ferruhzad to Gomidas, the duo perform evocative versions of works composed by poets and folk bards. The concert, an unmissable May event, will be held on May 15 at the CRR Concert Hall.

    Tereddüt Çizgisi (Hesitation Wound) is coming to theaters

    Making its world premiere at the 80th Venice Film Festival, Selman Nacar’s latest award-winning film Tereddüt Çizgisi (Hesitation Wound) will be released in theaters on May 3. Written and directed by Selman Nacar and starring Tülin Özen, the film depicts the story of the lawyer Canan, who is forced to confront her own conscience on the day that her client, who she believes to be innocent,  is sentenced for murder. 

    Nilüfer in Ankara on May 3

    Released on April 19 and inspired by old Nilüfer songs, Kara Gözünün Hasretiyle was written by Mabel Matiz for the artist. Nilüfer will perform in Ankara for the first time with her latest single. The concert takes place on May 3 at TED Ankara College Performing Arts and Performance Center.

    The 27th edition of the Uçan Süpürge (Flying Broom) Women’s Film Festival will be held on May 9-16. The festival was launched with the mission of raising visibility around women’s stories and labor in cinema.

    KINO 2024 selection from the Goethe Institut

    The Goethe Institut is bringing current and prominent examples of German cinema to Turkish audiences. The screenings at the Cinematheque/Cinema House will take place between May 2-5 and includes productions such as Her Şeyin Teorisi (The Universal Theory) and Dirsek (Ellbogen).

    27th Flying Broom International Women’s Film Festival in Ankara May 9-16

    The 27th edition of the Flying Broom (Uçan Süpürge)International Women’s Film Festival, which sets out with the mission of making women’s stories and women’s labor in cinema visible, will be held on May 9-16. The festival can be followed at now known as Kült Kavaklıdere, formerly known as Kavaklıdere Cinema, a setting that holds an important place in the hearts of Ankara residents. 

    One-act Tebdil on stage

    Tedbil, written and directed by Ali Sami Özbudak and focusing on the showdown between twin brothers from different worlds, can be seen at Pops Balat on May 6-14 and 20. The 100-minute play starring Murat Üzen, Erkan Akbulut, Fehmi Karaaslan, Gülşah Fırıncıoğlu and Özge Borak is among the highlights of May.

    IO International Theater Festival hosts Soirée

    Named after IO, one of the most important characters in Greek mythology, the IO International Theater Festival continues. Debuting in İstanbul on May 5, the festival hosts Soirée, an international masterpiece combining theater and dance, choreographed by Bozsik Yvette. The play, for which the Hungary-based Yvette Bozsik Company won International Critique at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Best Dance Production at Scotland on Sunday, and The Independent Special Award for Theater.
