    October events that embrace the fall spirit

    Filmekimi starts

    We begin our list of October events with a classic. This fall marks the 23rd edition of Filmekimi. One of the year’s most anticipated films, Joker: Folie à Deux (Madness for Two), will be released on October 3 and this, along with more than 40 other films, is part of the festival running until October 13. Show venues include Atlas 1948, City’s Nişantaşı- CINEWAM Premium+, Kadıköy Cinema, Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall, and Kadıköy Municipality Cinematheque/Cinema House.

    Filmekimi is in Diyarbakır on October 10-13, Ankara on October 17-20, and Izmir on October 24-27. Tickets are now on sale.

    Labour in a Single Shot at Ankara Yermekân.

    Ankara Yermekân’s Labour in a Single Shot workshop, led by Antje Ehmann and Hazel Kılınç, will showcase films from 20 participants  in a pop-up exhibition from September 16 to October 4. These single-shot labor videos will be accompanied by Harun Farocki’s films Workers Leaving the Factory (1995) and Comparison (2009). The exhibition is open on October 4 from 17.00 to 21.00 and October 5 from 14.00 to 20.00.

    Bir Cumhuriyet Şarkısı hits theaters on October 25.

    Set to be released in theaters on October 25, Bir Cumhuriyet Şarkısı (A Song of the Republic) has already drawn acclaim for its strong cast and an impressive script.

    Directed by Yağız Alp Akaydın, the film stars renowned actors Salih Bademci, Ertan Saban, Ahmet R. Şungar, Birce Akalay, Melis Sezen, Şifanur Gül, Mehmet Özgür, Emre Karayel, Bensu Soral and Okan Yalabık. One of October’s most anticipated events, the film follows the story of a group of talented and determined young people in 1930s Türkiye.

    The Akbank Jazz Festival continues until October 13

    This year’s Akbank Jazz Festival, running from September 28 to October 13, features a number of performances, including the following:  

    • Tophane Noise Band featuring Berke Can Özcan & Rana Uludağ, on Tuesday, October 1 at Alan Kadıköy
    • Selût & Tuğçe Şenoğul, on Sunday, October 6 at The Circle
    • Kurt Elling, on Monday, October 7 at Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall
    • Rodrigo Amarente on Friday, October 11 at Babylon
    • Adi Oasis on Saturday, October 12 at Babylon

    The 28th Istanbul Theatre Festival begins!

    The 28th Istanbul Theater Festival, curated by Mehmet Birkiye, is welcoming theatergoers with a lineup of five international and 14 local productions. From October 22 to November 19, you can reserve your seats for some stunning new local productions as well as acclaimed international productions. 

    Bryan Adams in Istanbul

    Bryan Adams, one of the most successful artists in world music history, performs in Istanbul on Friday night, October 18, as part of the world tour for his new album So Happy It Hurts. Expect an unforgettable night of music at the Ülker Sports and Events Hall, with Adams performing songs from both his new and earlier albums. 

    Bald Diva! meets the audience in Ankara

    Bald Diva, starring Zuhal Olcay and Haluk Bilginer, takes the stage at Ankara’s MEB Şura Hall on October 30 and 31. With a tagline reading  “The living room of an English bourgeois family, furnished with English armchairs”,  the play depicts an English evening: In the midst of devastation, Mr. and Mrs. Smith will welcome Mr. and Mrs. Martin into their home with the last bits of Englishness they have left. But why is the Fire Chief on Maid Mary’s stool when there is no sign of fire in the house?

    The 16th International Marmaris Music Festival continues

    We round out October’s events with a music festival. The 16th edition of the Marmaris International Music Festival, which has been organized by the Marmaris Philharmonic Association since 1998, runs until October 30. The festival in Muğla features a Flamenco Dance and Music Show on October 3, a Singing Recital on October 11, the Nova Ensemble concert on October 21, and the Dora Ensemble concert on October 25.
