On April 23, see the world through the eyes of Turkish Airlines children!

Did you know that April 23rd is celebrated as Children's Day in Türkiye every year? On this year’s National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, April 23, we wanted to let the children take the stage and see the world through their eyes. Derin, Alp, Ayşe Nile, Onur, Nilperi and Mehmet Tahir from the Turkish Airlines family gave delightful answers to the Turkish Airlines Blog’s questions!

With this account, managed by our writer team, we welcome all who love travel and exploration to enjoy these blog posts. And we gently remind our readers of the delight to be found in 'hitting the road'. As Tolstoy said: “All great literature is one of two stories; a man goes on a journey or a stranger comes to town.”

Do you know Turkish Airlines? What do you think it does?

It’s the airline that carries the Turkish flag.

Have you ever been on a plane? Can you tell us a bit about how it feels to fly?

Yes, I have been on the plane. Flying is a happy and excited feeling.

How do you think those big planes can fly in the air?

I think they fly with the power of the engines and the lift of the air.

Captains make announcements to passengers while flying the plane. If you were the captain, what would you like to say to the passengers?

Ladies, gentlemen and dear children: I am your captain Derin Günay. Please keep your belts fastened until the lights turn off and switch your phones to airplane mode. Have a nice flight.

If you were flying the plane, where would you take people on a trip?

I’d like to take them to Germany, Finland, Kuşadası and to their loved ones.

Today is April 23rd, the holiday for you and for all children. What would make children happy?

I think they would be happy if they were with their families.

You’re going on holiday abroad. Let’s say you’re going to buy a gift from here and give it to a child there. What gift would you bring?

If a boy, I’d bring a battery-powered car, if a girl, a Barbie doll as big as her size.

Would you rather be a bird and fly, or be a fish and swim? And why?

I would like to be a bird and fly, because it is a beautiful feeling to be as free as a bird.

Grown-ups sometimes get confused. They cannot think as beautifully as children. What do you think would make grown-ups happier?

Grown-ups can be happy if they play and have fun with their children.

What do you want to be when you grow up and why?

I want to be a doctor when I grow up because doctors save lives.

Can you teach us a good game? What should we play when we get bored?

You can play football, volleyball, basketball and hide-and-seek. They are all a lot of fun.

    Mehmet Tahir Şahin

Mehmet Tahir Şahin is 7 years old. He is in first grade. His father, Murat Şahin, works as the online product development manager at Turkish Airlines.

Do you know Turkish Airlines? What do you think it does?

I do. It does everything about flying.

Have you ever been on a plane? Can you tell us a bit about how it feels to fly?

I did. It’s a nice feeling – you’re passing through the clouds. It’s fun. You can’t see below, which is a little boring but, still, it’s very beautiful.

How do you think those big planes can fly in the air?

Hmm. Actually, I can explain this a little scientifically, but I don’t remember exactly how to explain it. I think the wind flow… You know those things under the plane, they turn… Its wings make it float in the air. I think the wind is supporting it from below and the things on the wing… As far as I know, it is sucking in the air from ahead. As such, it lifts the plane with the force of the wind.

Captains make announcements to passengers while flying the plane. If you were the captain, what would you like to say to the passengers?

OK, let me tell you. Dear passengers, please be careful not to fall down from the window. Our plane took off right now. Nobody should go to the toilet until the plane is straight again. Have a good trip.

If you were flying the plane, where would you take people on a trip?

I would do it like a bus. Different planes take people to different places, they always go to the same place. People who want to go there also go there. I would also like to take the people who got on my plane to where I was on duty. For example, I’d like to bring people who want to come Türkiye from Japan to Türkiye.

Today is April 23rd, the holiday for you and for all children. What would make children happy?

If grocery stores sell free chocolates or something… If everything was free… If all toys were gifts and all toys were free of charge for all children. I think this would make children happy.

You’re going on holiday abroad. Let’s say you’re going to buy a gift from here and give it to a child there. What gift would you bring?

If it is a boy, it depends. I’d take different gifts with me. If he loves dinosaurs, I will have the dinosaur gift with me. If he loves cars, I will have a car gift for him. If he loves dragons, I will have dragons. Anything he wants, I would have with me. But if it’s a girl, it’s different. I’d only have Barbies for her. All girls love Barbies.

Would you rather be a bird and fly, or be a fish and swim? And why?

It is good to fly, of course, but it is also good to go deep under the water and talk to animals and make friends with them. Both flying and swimming are good in a way… I think they’re both beautiful, but the thing is that if I were a bird, I would like to be a bird that can dive a few meters into the water.

Grown-ups sometimes get confused. They cannot think as beautifully as children. What do you think would make grown-ups happier?

I think they would be very happy if they got 2,500 liras as gift without doing anything.

What do you want to be when you grow up and why?

A paleontologist. Because they find dinosaur bones. But if I can’t be a paleontologist, I would like to go to space or to the bottom of the ocean, or fly an airplane. But if I get the chance, I’ll be a paleontologist.

Can you teach us a good game? What should we play when we get bored?

Let’s think. My favorite game that comes to my mind right now is blindman’s buff. Everyone is standing around. They tie a blindfold over the eyes of one person. In some houses, they turn the blindfolded person around and then they start the game. In others, they don’t. Everyone tries to walk quietly. Since the seeker’s eyes are covered, she cannot see anyone and has to listen to the voices. If the seeker catches someone, that person becomes the next seeker.

If you were flying the plane, where would you take people on a trip?

    I’d take them to Bodrum.

Today is April 23rd, the holiday for you and for all children. What would make children happy?

They would be very happy if there was an airship. They can then land anywhere, not just airports.

You’re going on holiday abroad. Let’s say you’re going to buy a gift from here and give it to a child there. What gift would you bring?

I’d bring a painted spinning top.

Would you rather be a bird and fly, or be a fish and swim? And why?

I’d like to be a bird and fly because it’s fun.

Grown-ups sometimes get confused. They cannot think as beautifully as children. What do you think would make grown-ups happier?

If they spend time with something of their own that they love very much.

What do you want to be when you grow up and why?

Can you teach us a good game? What should we play when we get bored?

How do you think those big planes can fly in the air?

Thanks to its engines and wings. Also, the power of the wind a little.

You know how captains make announcements to passengers while flying the plane? If you were the captain, what would you like to say to the passengers?

Ladies, gentlemen and children. Please do not smoke during the flight and keep your belt fastened until the flight is over. Thanks.

If you were flying the plane, where would you take people on a trip?

    To New York.

Grown-ups sometimes get confused. They cannot think as beautifully as children. What do you think would make grown-ups happier?

I think it wouldn’t be bad if they just used their imagination a little.

What do you want to be when you grow up and why?

I want to be a gymnast when I grow up.

Can you teach us a good game? What should we play when we get bored?

I’d say when you are bored, use your imagination and think about something.

    Yes. Beautiful. A little fun.

How do you think those big planes can fly in the air?

    With their engines.

You know how captains make announcements to passengers while flying the plane? If you were the captain, what would you like to say to the passengers?

On take-off I would say “could you please fasten your seat belts?”. I wouldn’t say “fasten” I’d say, “please fasten”. On landing, I’d say, “Hold on tight”.

If you were flying the plane, where would you take people on a trip?

What do you want to be when you grow up and why?

A teacher. Because I want the kids to learn a lot. About painting.

Can you teach us a good game? What should we play when we get bored?

Ludo is a game for the mind. There are blue, green, pink and red pieces with magnets, because the box is magnetized. Then there’s one dice that goes up to six. And he’s got a star. You throw the dice and get, like, a four. You start at your starting point that matches the color of your piece and move four spaces.

How do you think big planes fly in the air?

Huge planes have huge engines, they fly thanks to the engines and propellers.

Captains make announcements to passengers when they fly the plane. What would you say to the passengers if you were the captain?

Calm down, the weather is sunny, there is no wind, there are no birds in the air, the birds are behind us. If you’re hungry, I’ll send you the food services, just say yes or no. If you’re sleepy, I’ll get the seats ready and all that.

    Antalya, Eskişehir, Germany and Istanbul.
