Snowboarding
According to the Canadian Ski Council, the “development of snowboarding was inspired by skateboarding, sledding, surfing and skiing…. the sport was developed in the United States in the 1960s to 1970s and became a Winter Olympic Sport in 1998.” Like surfing, snowboarding requires a single board. Most boards have bindings for the rider’s feet; poles are not used.
Where can I snowboard in Türkiye?
Our informal survey of Turkish snowboarders reveals that “you can snowboard wherever there’s snow.” Kartepe, a 90-minute drive from Istanbul, is a good place to start. You can also check out ski resorts such as Uludağ, Kartalkaya, Sarıkamş, Erciyes, and Palandöken. First step: book a flight.
Snowblade
Snowblades are, basically, short skis. The blades usually have foot bindings; poles are not mandatory. Snowblading is considered more difficult to master than skiing.

Snowkite
Also known as kite skiing, snowkiting is similar to kiteboarding and, to some extent, wind boarding. Essentially, the rider is using wind power to glide along the snow.

Ice climbing
This extreme sport requires boldness, but also caution and expertise. Think “rock climbing” but on ice – frozen waterfalls and ice falls, or cliffs covered with ice. Professional mountaineering equipment is recommended.
Where can I ice climb in Türkiye?
In Türkiye, Kaçkarlar is renowned for glacier climbing activities, while the Erzurum Uzundere Waterfall and other waterfalls in Erzurum’s Tortum region are the best ice climbing spots. Snocross
Finally, we present snocross. This extreme sport is essentially motocross racing on snowmobiles. It’s fast and it’s jumpy: tracks include sharp bends, steep jumps, and various obstacles.
